Overview
The college admission landscape has changed dramatically since 2020. Nearly 400 colleges and universities now favor a character-based approach to admission focusing on meaningful impact rather than individual achievement.
FLEX programs help students to develop college-ready skills such as compassion, curiosity, grit, and purpose alongside their academic passions. Through our leadership training, curricular experiences, coaching, and capstone projects, students learn how to engage their passions and impact their communities in meaningful ways.

Foundations for Leadership
FLEX Leadership Courses offer a dynamic, highly engaging curricular experience designed for the YouTube generation. Students study the attributes of successful leadership (based on Harvard research) and set personal goals for growth. Responses are recorded through an interactive video platform that allows students to engage in a natural and authentic way.

Students who want to take the next step in applying the lessons learned through their leadership coursework enroll in the Impacter Incubator.
Impacter Incubator enables students to develop a resume-building passion project with an eye toward college admissions. Students receive end-to-end support in executing an actionable impact plan through personalized coaching and develop an online presence to document their achievements.
Students who want to make an impact for college admissions are supported through building a resume of impactful experiences.
Students receive advice on the activities that are best suited to their goals and assistance in documenting their achievements; all geared toward earning a Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

FLEX HeadStart Program
Students from 6th–10th grade participate in courses that stoke their intellectual curiosity and help them engage with their passions. Supported by high-level instruction and long-term guidance, students learn how to put their learning into action. FLEX HeadStart students actively find meaningful opportunities through publications, competitions, and extracurricular activities.
Students develop research skills, prepare for science and math competitions, and write for contests and publications

Frequently Asked Questions
The FLEX HeadStart program is unique in its focus on both high-level academic enrichment and meaningful opportunities to apply knowledge in exciting and novel experiences. These experiences are often formative for younger students who are figuring out where their passions lie.
HeadStart classes run throughout the year. Terms are divided by seasons: spring (February to April), summer (June to August), and fall/winter (October to December). Most courses are conducted in twelve 90-minute sessions.
The average teacher–student ratio in HeadStart classes is 1 to 8.
Both in-person and virtual classes are offered, though offerings may vary by term.
For the most seamless learning experience, we generally recommend that students take HeadStart courses in order, as some courses build on concepts covered in previous courses. However, it is possible for students to take courses out of sequence.
HeadStart instructors are highly experienced graduates of top colleges and universities. They are carefully vetted, trained, and supervised to ensure that every minute of time with a student adds value and has a positive impact on the student’s academic development and character.
