A collective statement signed by 350 colleges (including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, UChicago, Northwestern, and many others) aims to relieve students of additional pressure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic as they prepare for college applications. The admissions offices of these institutions seek to encourage student self-care and contribution to family needs, emphasize the assessment of academic work in a student’s local context and service in any capacity, and de-emphasize the need for the intensive summer activities that students might typically take advantage of.
While this message may make summer activities and academic preparation sound less important for colleges, FLEX students should pursue the plans outlined by their counselors, a great advantage that they have during this time.
